Executive Summary

HD Supply's warehouse auditing process relied on fragmented, paper-based workflows that made it difficult to identify shipping issues before products left the warehouse. More than half of outbound orders contained some form of error, creating operational inefficiencies, additional costs, and reduced confidence in fulfillment quality. As Lead UX Consultant, I designed a native mobile auditing platform that streamlined frontline workflows, improved audit accuracy, and established a scalable foundation for future AI-driven operational insights.

challenge

Warehouse auditors worked in fast-moving environments where paper checklists, inconsistent processes, and limited system visibility slowed issue resolution and increased the likelihood of shipping errors. The challenge extended beyond creating a mobile application—it required redesigning an operational workflow that balanced warehouse realities, SAP integration constraints, and long-term digital transformation goals.

strategic decision

Rather than digitizing existing paper forms, I focused on simplifying the auditing workflow itself. By observing warehouse auditors in their working environment, I identified unnecessary cognitive load, inconsistent task sequencing, and opportunities to surface the right information at the right moment. Working closely with SAP engineers and logistics stakeholders, I designed a mobile-first experience aligned with Material Design 3 that reduced friction, supported faster issue resolution, and created a flexible architecture capable of supporting future AI-assisted recommendations. The product was intentionally designed as an operational platform rather than a standalone auditing tool.
